THE ABSTRACT

Harjoko Sangganagara B. Sugiatmo. The Method of Cadre Character Development of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) in Building the spirit of Nationalism in the Globalization Era (The Descriptive Analytic Study to the Cadre Course Participants Held by the Training and Education Board of The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) of the Province of West Java Chapter).
The advent of the program on character building through cadre regeneration at the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle for West Java Chapter is regarded as a response toward a disparity between the demand for development and the party’s capability owing to the scarcity of the cadres who have intelligent traditions and statesmanship with ideology concerns; conscience and political understanding; the party awareness; as well as higher social and environmental awareness.
To overcome the problems, it is necessary to make the program of the party’s cadre character building which is materialized by instilling the Indonesia Five Fundamental Principles (Pancasila) ideology in the nation building. The regeneration is conduct at the Training and Education Board of the Indonesian Democaratic Party of Struggle of West Java Chapter in Bandung periodically.
This move was based on the decision of the First Congress of the Party (PDI Perjuangan) held ini Semarang to prepare the Party members to be the cadre through a special training and education. Cadres are those who are posted at the structural party, governance, both executive and legislative, as well as functional tasks.
Such a cadre position is a novel strategy in character development through nation building by recruiting the education participants across the regencies and cities in West Java. Next, they are educated and updated in the hope to improve the human resource which has the national horizons with curricular materials comprising : Pancasila ideology, Indonesian Political Economic Social and Cultural Systems (Trisakti), National History and History of Political Parties in Indonesia, Leadership and Management Organization, Political Communication and a set of Outbound activities.
The study was conducted through : (1) observing the learning process in conjunction with character development at Badiklat PDI Perjuangan of West Java ; (2) observing the training and educations participants; and (3) observing the national development in the use of interview and observation method.
The efforts of character development can be realized to generate the cadre participants. The training and education participants who returned to their districs and hometowns may bring with them some positive effects for the national life and party despite some weaknesses that need further study. Therefore, the character building of the cadres should be improved when necessary.
